Barcelona could be poised for economic boost as Roma join race to sign former attacker

Abde Ezzalzouli has become one of the biggest names in the transfer market after enjoying the best season of his career with Real Betis.

The Moroccan winger was a key attacking outlet for Manuel Pellegrini during 2025-26, contributing 15 goals and 13 assists in 43 official matches, numbers that have significantly boosted his profile across Europe.

That form, however, was cut short by a knee ligament injury that ruled him out of Morocco’s World Cup, denying him the chance to further enhance his reputation on the biggest stage.

According to Diario SPORT , Roma are now considering Abde as a potential attacking reinforcement, with the Italian club evaluating him among their options for the summer window.

No formal negotiations have taken place yet, but the interest has been made public, adding another name to a growing list of admirers.

Real Betis, for their part, remain firm on their valuation. The club consider Abde an important part of their project but accept they may need to sell if the right offer arrives, pointing to his €60 million release clause as the benchmark figure in any talks.

Barcelona stand to benefit

Any deal would also have financial implications back at Camp Nou. When Barcelona sold Abde to Betis in 2023, they retained a percentage of any future transfer.

Following a later renegotiation tied to Vitor Roque’s move away from Betis, Barcelona now hold 20 percent of any future sale.

That means a departure at his full release clause would net the Catalans a windfall in the region of €12 million , a welcome boost given the club’s ongoing financial planning.

With Roma now in the mix and Premier League interest also expected to grow, Abde faces an important few weeks in determining his next step.

Betis, though, are in no rush to sell cheaply, and will only sanction a departure if their financial demands are met.

Either way, Barcelona will be watching closely, aware that a slice of any transfer fee is heading their way regardless of which club ultimately wins the race.
