Vic Fangio wants Moro Ojomo included in Eagles’ long-term plans

On Thursday morning, Vic Fangio may have delivered his message about Moro Ojomo’s future with a smile, but the Eagles defensive coordinator made his opinion clear.

“Howie needs to save some money for him, too,” Fangio said, referring to general manager Howie Roseman.

The comment came one day after Philadelphia agreed to a four-year, $152 million extension with Jalen Carter that reportedly includes $106 million guaranteed. The agreement made Carter the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history by annual value and secured his future alongside Jordan Davis, who signed a three-year, $78 million extension earlier in the offseason.

The 2023 seventh-round draft pick is entering the final season of his rookie contract and can become an unrestricted free agent in March. His development from a late-round prospect into a reliable member of Fangio’s rotation should create a competitive market if he reaches free agency.

Philadelphia has made its priorities clear by committing $230 million in new funding to Carter and Davis. Keeping a third defensive tackle on a significant contract could become challenging as the Eagles balance the salary cap and prepare for future extensions at other positions.

Ojomo’s value, however, extends beyond traditional statistics. His quickness and leverage allow him to create pressure from the interior, while his versatility gives Fangio flexibility with defensive fronts and personnel packages. He has also provided valuable production without requiring the workload or financial investment attached to Philadelphia’s two starters. Roseman has consistently invested in the defensive line, but the Eagles cannot keep every developing player. Milton Williams left Philadelphia for a lucrative contract after establishing himself as an effective interior pass rusher, and Ojomo could follow a similar path.

Fangio’s remark acknowledged that possibility while also endorsing Ojomo’s importance. Carter and Davis are secured as defensive cornerstones. The question is whether Philadelphia can provide enough money and opportunity to keep Ojomo by their side.
