Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer trusts his designated Bayern Munich successor Jonas Urbig to also be his replacement on the Germany national team.
"I think one can completely trust him. He showed that in every competition. In the Bundesliga, in the German Cup or in the Champions League, it doesn't matter. I have a very good feeling about it," Neuer told broadcaster Sky in an interview published on Wednesday.
Neuer retired from the national team after Euro 2024, but made a surprise return for the recent World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Urbig wasn't officially part of the squad - unlike back-ups Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel - but travelled with the team to gain experience.
Germany were eliminated in the round of 32 after a defeat to Paraguay on penalties.
"At first, you're in a bit of a slump, a low point. For me, though, it turned out to be a very good thing that I didn't end my career," said Neuer, who had previously extended his Bayern deal.
"It would have been really bitter if that had been my last game as a football player."
Neuer has confirmed he once again retired from the national team after the World Cup, but he still has a contract with Bayern until June 2027.
After the tournament, coach Julian Nagelsmann agreed to step down from his position and former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp was signed as a replacement.
Neuer said he has a lot of trust in the new Germany coach, who will make his debut on September 24 in a Nations League match against the Netherlands, followed by a clash against Greece.
"I think he has a lot of experience and I hope that he can develop German football," the goalkeeper said.
Neuer wants to stay in football after he officially retires, but doesn't "necessarily want to become a coach."
