'If You Ain't Cheating, You Ain't Trying' — Why Ex-NFL MVP Cam Newton Is Embroiled in a War of Words With Emmanuel Acho

Once their NFL playing days were done, Cam Newton and Emmanuel Acho found a second career, talking about football on TV. They both managed to land fairly high-profile gigs. Newton on ESPN and Acho on FS1.

But neither is in those positions anymore and has since branched off with their own podcasts. And now they’re at odds.

Recently, Acho and Newton got into a war of words about their respective podcasts. It started with Newton attacking Acho’s “Speakeasy” podcast for suspiciously starting off with nearly a million followers.

“Let’s let the people know how you got your followers from the get-go,” Newton said. “I looked online, and I said damn. Y’all got 700-thousand (followers)? [On Instagram] That’s like the podcast way of going to Dr. Miami.”

Newton argues that he built his “4th-and-1” podcast organically, whereas Acho’s followers and subscribers are from the accounts and channel dedicated to the popular show “Undisputed,” which featured Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe.

Once Acho left FS1, he took over the accounts and channel dedicated to “Undisputed” and started posting content from “Speakeasy” on them.

Naturally, the folks at “Speakeasy” saw Newton’s comments and made sure to let everyone know that Acho would be responding.

Before starting the podcast on Thursday, Speakeasy’s account on X wrote, “No way Cam thought he was getting away with this! See y’all in an hour.”

Then, during the show, Acho clapped back at Newton and said, “If anybody in the world should be okay with BBLs, Cameron, it’s got to be you. Cameron, if anybody in the world knows anything BBLeasy… Cameron, you the one that said you went to strip clubs to compete with other men.”

Newton recently admitted he would go to strip clubs to “ compete with other men ” when it came to spending money.

“Cameron, it’s love,” Acho added. “You are one of the greatest on television right now, on social media right now. But Cameron, look in the mirror, G. We know how you feel about BBLs and being store-bought. With that being said, you can’t ignore us. You refuse to ignore us. We are here to stay.”

While Acho seems to admit to possibly purchasing the social media accounts and the YouTube channel, he also points out that their subscribers haven’t exactly left; they’ve managed to keep them around.

“Yes, we got an account with 2.61 million subscribers,” Acho added. “2.61 million, which means of those 2.61 million that we inherited, 2.61 million could have left. Hundreds of 1000s the moment they saw our account, moment they saw Kieran, moment they saw Trey, of whom they previously knew nothing about because they weren’t on the channel, easily could have been like, ‘Oh, you know what? I’m gone.'”

“Hundreds of 1000s, if not millions, could have dipped,” Acho continued. “But the fact remains, we still got 2.61 million subscribers. So what the hell does that mean, Cameron? It means that we’re retaining, we’re maintaining… Everybody wants to act like they got it out of the mud. Who in the world wants to get it out of the mud? If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying.”

Some competitors do say, “If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying hard enough.” Acho seems to echo that belief, and so far, the “Speakeasy” has built a steady audience that tunes in to the live streams and watches the video segments across various social media platforms.
