Apartments evacuated after scaffolding comes loose from Brooklyn building By Eyewitness News Tuesday, August 11, 2026 3:20AM No injuries were reported, according to officials. GERRITSEN BEACH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Apartments were evacuated after scaffolding came loose from a Brooklyn building on Monday night.
Department of Building officials said scaffolding installed at the side and rear of a a six-story apartment building located at 2265 Gerritsen Ave. between Knapp St. and Avenue V in Gerritsen Beach pulled away from the facade, causing several metal bars of the scaffold to bend and buckle.
All the apartments in the back of the building were evacuated.
DOB officials said first responders were able to temporarily secure the scaffold by tying it back to the building, preventing it from pulling further away from the structure.
They said the property owner's hired scaffold company is on the scene, and are in the process of securing the scaffold further so they can fully dismantle the damaged equipment and remove it from the site.
Officials said not part of the scaffold has collapsed, and there were no injuries reported.
Inspectors remain on scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
