An England fan who prematurely crowned England as World Cup winners in a tattoo has had his new artwork amended.
Sean Carrington spent £550 on a leg tattoo of the World Cup trophy above the words "England World Cup Winner 2026" after The Three Lions’ 2-1 win over DR Congo in the round of 32.
The 36-year-old was so convinced Thomas Tuchel's side would go all the way before Argentina prematurely ended England’s chances of World Cup glory in a 2-1 defeat.
Now the roofer has returned to Holy Trinity Tattoo Studio in Standish to add “Just joking” underneath.
Following his second trip to the tattoo parlour, he told the BBC: "I'm more bothered that England hasn't won the World Cup than I am to have a tattoo on my leg”.
He added: "It's not bothering me. It's just a tattoo."
Carrington said he did not regret getting the original tattoo and he "wouldn't have done anything differently".

He said he was happy with the result of the extra line added to his tattoo and remarked how it was "sound", adding: "I didn't really feel it."
Jamie Taylor, the parlour's manager, said the tattoo would normally have cost about £100, but they had decided to do the correction for free.
When asked whether he has plans for any more tattoos, Carrington did not rule out the possibility of getting another football-related tribute in the future.
"I don't plan any tattoo, it's just if it pops in my head," he said.
Holy Trinity Tattoo’s Facebook page shared a video of the new amendment which said: “This is exactly why tattoo artists tell you to wait.”
The venue added: “Well… this aged well.
“Last month our customer was so confident he had ‘England World Cup Winners 2026’ tattooed.
“Fast forward to today… and he’s been back for a little update.
“‘Just joking.’
“At least he’s got a good sense of humour! Fair play for owning it.”
After England’s late defeat to Argentina in the semi-finals, Tuchel’s side went on to finish the tournament in third place, beating France 6-4 in the ‘Bronze Final’ in Miami.
