Nottingham Forest secure Ibrahim Sangare’s future with new long-term contract

Nottingham Forest have handed Ibrahim Sangare a new contract, tying the Ivory Coast international to the City Ground until the summer of 2029.

The midfielder has signed a fresh three-year extension, providing a significant boost for the club ahead of the new season under recently appointed head coach Oliver Glasner.

Sangare’s new deal ends speculation over his future after another campaign in which he established himself as one of Forest’s most important midfield players.

The 28-year-old joined Forest from PSV Eindhoven in September 2023 in a deal worth around £30 million and has gradually developed into a key figure at the heart of the team.

After a difficult adaptation period during his first season in England, Sangare enjoyed a much stronger 2025-26 campaign.

He made 43 appearances in all competitions, including 14 in the UEFA Europa League as Forest reached the semi-finals of the competition during a memorable European run.

A minor injury prevented him from featuring in the last four, but his performances throughout the campaign underlined his growing influence in the squad.

One of his standout displays came against Tottenham Hotspur in December when he scored once and provided two assists in an impressive midfield performance before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sangare also remained an integral member of the Ivory Coast national team.

The midfielder featured in all four of his country’s matches at the 2026 World Cup after previously helping the Elephants reach the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations earlier in the year.

Forest’s decision to secure Sangare’s long-term future comes during a summer of significant change.

The club have already sanctioned the high-profile sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, increasing the importance of retaining an experienced presence in central midfield.

Forest have also strengthened their squad by bringing in Xaver Schlager on a free transfer while continuing to explore further reinforcements before the transfer window closes.

Speaking after signing his new contract, Sangare thanked the supporters for their backing and described Nottingham Forest as a family after three years at the club.

Chief Football Officer George Syrianos also praised the midfielder’s influence, highlighting both his leadership within the dressing room and his importance to the club’s ambitions.

By securing Sangare’s future until 2029, Forest have ensured one of their most experienced and dependable midfielders will remain at the heart of Glasner’s project as they prepare for another campaign.
