Florida State football wide receiver Devin Carter is set to miss some time to start the 2026 season.
According to Warchant's Matt LaSerre , the true freshman suffered bruised ribs early in fall camp, which caused him to wear a green non-contact jersey. Unfortunately, he collided with a defensive back on a play during a competitive portion of practice and ended up falling onto another player, injuring his back.
Tests revealed that he had multiple “transverse process fractures" in his lower back and is expected to miss several weeks, according to LaSerre.
Carter has been praised throughout fall camp by the coaching staff, with Mike Norvell repeatedly saying that he expected him to play as a true freshman. He is the son of former FSU running back Dexter Carter and was a four-star recruit in their 2026 recruiting class.
With Carter unavailable to start the season, FSU's wide receiver corps will be led by proven playmakers Duce Robinson and Micahi Danzy as well as Jayvan Boggs, Jasen Lopez and Tae'Shaun Gelsey. Carter was expected to be on the two-deep to start the season, opening up a spot for someone else.
FSU is set to play the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday to start the season. The game will start at 7 p.m. ET and air on The CW.
