Josh Harrison spent the first eight of his 13 MLB seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. From 2011-18, the second baseman made two National League All-Star teams, and helped the Pirates reach the postseason in three consecutive seasons (2013-15).

He also spent time in the minor league systems of the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers.

A Cincinnati native, Harrison signed a minor league contract with the Reds in 2024. He got into a handful of spring training games with his hometown team, but was released before the end of camp.
According to Mackey , Harrison visited PNC Park in Pittsburgh last month. That’s when Nutting extended the offer to him to retire as a Pirate.
“The city means a lot to us,” Harrison said . “It’s our home away from home. I had some of my better years in Pittsburgh and grew a lot. That’s where me and my family started. For it to come full circle is really special.”
