Bills' Brandon Beane makes bold statement: 'We got to win a Super Bowl

Brandon Beane did roughly 12 minutes on  The Pat McAfee Show  days before Buffalo 's veterans reported, and he shared quite a bit of insight, some directly and some indirectly.

What he said tells a lot about the 2026 Bills .

McAfee asked what life is like right now as the general manager of the Buffalo Bills . Beane's  answer  was one sentence long: "So we got to win a Super Bowl."

Beane, entering his 10th season, knows the talk of goals and process is now behind this team in their progression — Those goals are still ahead and have yet to be fully actualized, and he doubled down when McAfee pushed on the pressure of a new head coach plus championship-or-nothing expectations.

"You embrace the expectations," Beane added. "You want to put a good team together and it's a competitive league as a whole, and obviously the AFC has been a tough gauntlet with the premier quarterback play that's come out of this conference. So it's no easy task, but we're excited about the challenge ahead."

Joe Brady's play calling and managing of the 90-man roster's workload in pads across five weeks of July is on display as a head coach for the first time. Beane's here for it.

"We're excited about Joe Brady," the GM continued. "The offseason, we thought, went really well. Obviously, this will be his first training camp coaching these guys through pads and knowing when to kick him in the butt and also knowing when to pull back on the reins a little bit."

He also noted their may be more work to fill out the depth chart ahead.

"Met with the scouts this morning, just kind of going through our ready list and positions of concern if we do have a depth issue," Beane on keeping a live board of positions he'd move on if camp exposes a hole or need.

When asked how Allen has changed from the raw Wyoming prospect to a league-defining MVP, Beane skipped the arm talent entirely.

"He's still as competitive as ever. That's not going to change, but you've seen him mature and grow into the comfort of not just leading the offense or just leading the skill, but leading our whole team and the guys on defense."

The GM traced it back to the early roster, when Allen deferred to the veterans who already owned the locker room.

"He didn't want to step on their toes and he knew they had it, and his job was to worry about the offense," he noted. "But I think at this point, he's turned 30. He knows the defensive guys love him and will listen to him. So I think that was the next step in his maturity — and to help us get this thing."

"He's still going to throw his body on the line when he needs to. He's continued each year to try and be smarter with the hits. He's going to take them, but try and take the unnecessary ones out of his game."

AJ Hawk asked how Beane's camp-watching habits have evolved since 2017, and the GM dove in, saying "Once we get the pads on, I go to the O-line, D-line and nine-on-seven. Because that's where the game's played. It's played in the trenches and you've got to be good there or you're going to probably struggle."

Buffalo spent this offseason stocking the front seven for Leonhard's 3-4 hybrid. The GM's own attention is going exactly there, and making sure to keep the roster stocked and set up for success.

"It's a car crash sport, and so when guys are on the ground or getting rolled up on, you're anxious until everybody's up," he said. "And when you got to put one on a cart, you're obviously walking over there and praying and hoping that it's nothing major."

Beane also noted Buffalo's front-loaded schedule, saying the first five games are tough. And ten years in on-the-job now, with a 30-year-old MVP, a first-year head coach, a new defensive coordinator and a $2.1 billion stadium opening in Week 2, the recently promoted President of Football Operations went on national television and refused to describe this season as anything other than championship-or-failure.
