Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons is no stranger to heated moments. Simmons and Cam Ward got into an intense argument during training camp last year, and Simmons found himself in a scuffle during Tuesday’s training camp session that resulted in his ejection.
According to the Tennessean part of the USA TODAY Network , Simmons threw a punch after getting his helmet ripped off during an 11-on-11 period of practice. Per New Channel 5 in Nashville, Simmons’ punch was toward Titans tackle JC Latham.
"Our policy is if you throw a punch, you're ejected in a game. Same thing with practice," Titans head coach Robert Saleh said later. "If you throw a punch, you're out of practice.
"But rather than going into the locker room, he went to the other field. He still got his work in."
Saleh paused practice for a moment after the scrum to talk to the team.
Simmons signed a massive three-year, $105.8 million contract extension with Tennessee in June. At the time it made Simmons the richest defensive tackle in NFL history. His status as the highest-paid defensive tackle has since been surpassed by Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter who inked a four-year, $152 million extension in July.
