Jose Ramirez is truly one of one.

This diminutive, switch-hitting infielder who was supposed to be a utility man without a lot of power has instead turned into maybe the best player to ever wear a Cleveland baseball hat.

But even with that journey in mind, there are still so many things that make Jose a player unlike any other.

Take a sequence on Wednesday night, for example, as the Guardians took on their Ohio rival Reds down in Cincinnati.

While hitting from the left side, Ramirez managed to foul a pitch directly off his knee.

He crumpled to the ground and stayed down for a while before working it out to stay in the game.

Just a couple pitches later, Ramirez blooped a ball down the left field line. You wouldn't have known his knee was hurting by what happened next.

First, he took a wide route around first base, but he saw the throw was coming in, so he began to turn around.

But then, Ramirez noticed the ball had trickled beyond the middle infielders, so he took off back toward second base. And when he realized it had rolled far enough away, he didn't stop sprinting until he was sliding safely into third.

Naturally, as it does, Ramirez's helmet came off about when he was going around second. It never stays on.

Ramirez's statistics are special. The growth of his power from both sides of the plate has been one of the best developments ever to hit Cleveland baseball. He makes so many highlight-reel plays.

But the thing that sums Ramirez up more than any other is that he still plays like a dude who isn't sure he's even going to make the team.

He plays like someone who understands the famous Joe DiMaggio adage -- there might be someone in that ballpark who will only ever attend that one ballgame to see Ramirez play. It's up to him to play hard for that person.

And really, Ramirez plays hard for himself. He knows this wasn't given. It was earned.

Each day Ramirez takes the field, he doesn't take a single moment for granted. It's a beautiful thing to watch.

So his legacy truly might be captured one day in a statue of him sliding into an extra base while his helmet flies off his head, deflects off his foot and bounces away.

Ramirez has done so much for Cleveland baseball, but it's in those non-descript moments where he truly proves what this game, this team and this city really mean to him.
