Barcelona will try everything possible to sign top attacking target as they wait for another nudge

As we slowly approach the start of the new season, there is much anxiety among Barcelona fans surrounding the attacking department.

The departure of Robert Lewandowski coupled with the potential exit of Ferran Torres means Barcelona are in desperate need of a new centre forward.

But their pursuit of Julian Alvarez has not progressed, with Atletico Madrid still determined not to sell their star player to a direct rival.

According to Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona will exhaust every possible avenue to bring Alvarez to the club, though they will not go beyond the €100 million already offered.

The Argentine remains the club’s top target with just over a month left in the window. He has been on holiday for a week and a half since losing the World Cup final to Spain, but remains concerned by Atletico’s refusal to even negotiate with Barcelona.

The club are aware of Alvarez’s growing discontent at Atletico and are hopeful he makes a fresh move before August 10th, the date he is due to rejoin Diego Simeone’s training sessions.

Alvarez maintains that Miguel Angel Gil Marin promised him back in February that he would be allowed to leave, a claim the Atletico CEO has since denied in conversations with Joan Laporta.

Despite the uncertainty, there is no real panic within the Barcelona camp.

Hansi Flick is already satisfied with the signings of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, two players who add pressing intensity and goals to the frontline.

The German would still welcome a recognised centre-forward, but only if the arrival significantly raises the team’s standard.

With Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo and Raphinha all capable of playing through the middle if required, Barcelona feel reasonably well covered in attack for now.

Alvarez, though, remains the dream addition, and with his contract running until 2030 and carrying a €500 million release clause, any deal was always going to be difficult.

For now, Barcelona will keep pushing, hopeful that the coming weeks bring the breakthrough they are waiting for.
