Official: Arsenal defender Callan Hamill “delighted” to sign first professional contract

Arsenal have officially confirmed that promising defender Callan Hamill has signed his first professional contract with the club ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The versatile Scottish youngster joined the Gunners from St Johnstone last summer and has enjoyed an impressive first season in north London, earning recognition for his performances across Arsenal’s academy sides before putting pen to paper on his first professional deal.

Speaking to Arsenal.com after signing his contract, Hamill said:

“I’m really delighted to get it over the line and just really looking forward to what’s coming next.

“I moved away from home last year and joined Arsenal last season and had a really good season last season. So, it’s been a good year so far, so looking forward to kicking on.”

Hamill has continued to impress since arriving from Scotland

Hamill arrived at Arsenal with an excellent reputation after progressing through St Johnstone’s academy and even making his senior debut before completing his move to the Emirates.

It did not take long for the youngster to catch the eye in North London. Hamill was already being rewarded for his early performances by receiving opportunities to train with Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad alongside fellow summer signing Demiane Agustien.

That early involvement reflected the club’s confidence in his potential and highlighted Arsenal’s commitment to integrating the academy’s brightest prospects into the senior environment whenever possible.

Hamill went on to enjoy an excellent debut campaign, making 38 appearances across Arsenal’s academy sides in the FA Youth Cup, UEFA Youth League and Premier League 2, while also captaining the side on several occasions.

Reflecting on his first season, he added:

“I think I made a good impression. Playing a lot of games. I was really happy with last season. Hopefully, I can have a good season this season.”

First-team experience fuels Hamill’s ambitions

The Scotland youth international has already benefited from training alongside Arsenal’s senior players and believes those experiences have accelerated his development.

“I got a few chances to work with them, and they were really good at giving you tips and pointers on what to work on and stuff. So, taking advice from the best can only help you get better as well. So, you need to take that on board.

“Hopefully I can be a fully-fledged Arsenal player and play as many games as possible.”

Still only at the beginning of his Arsenal journey, Hamill has already demonstrated leadership qualities, versatility and the ability to adapt quickly after moving from Scotland. His new professional contract represents another positive step as the club continue building for the future by securing some of the academy’s brightest young talents.
