Chelsea fans not pleased with Josh Hart’s message about a ‘Championship season

New York Knicks swingman Josh Hart might not have realised what he wished for Chelsea to accomplish in the 2026-27 Premier League season.

Hart has claimed he’s been a huge Chelsea fan since the early 2010s, joining ‘The Blues’ and publicly rooting for them in recent years despite their roughest stretch in over 20 years during this time.

Before Chelsea opened their 2026-27 Premier League campaign with a 3-2 away win at city rivals Fulham, Hart made a wish for his team that the fanbase wants him to retract or rephrase immediately.

Josh Hart’s desire for a ‘Championship’ season for Chelsea was poorly worded

Hart took to social media before the win over Fulham and made it clear he wanted Chelsea to have a ‘championship’ season, not realising that PL fans could interpret that as him wishing for Chelsea to be relegated to the second tier of English football, the EFL Championship.

“Championship Season Loading, Chelsea FC.”

Fans were quick to point out the alternate meaning of Hart’s post.

“Ain’t no way your — — thinks we are getting relegated. Shut up and dribble,” said one Chelsea fan who didn’t understand the miscommunication at play.

“Josh no it doesn’t have the same meaning there, nooooo,” said one fan .

“I too root for Chelsea’s hopeful championship season,” said a non-Chelsea fan , capitalising on the message.

“Bro is trying to get us relegated,” said a Chelsea fan , who found the double-meaning here funny.

“Americans have their own meaning of championship as compared to what we understand in England,” said an English fan .

Josh Hart’s Chelsea fandom can’t be revoked just yet

This is a simple and humorous issue, as Hart could have avoided this if he had used the word ‘title’ instead of ‘championship,’ which are used interchangeably in American sports.

Hart has stated in interviews that he became a fan of the London-based club as a 15-year-old, naming players like Frank Lampard and John Terry as his favorites growing up.

He has been actively posting about Chelsea on social media since 2017, and claims he became a die-hard fan of the club season during his college days at Villanova.

He definitely intended to say his team will win a title in a year when Chelsea has no European commitments on their schedule.

It seems most fans understood what went wrong here for the reigning NBA Champion.
