The appeal is obvious. Tottenham need more threat in the final third, more pace in transition and more end product from wide areas. Rashford brings all of that when confident and properly coached. A front line with him running into space under an aggressive, front-foot manager could be dangerous.

The concern, naturally, is the wage. £325,000 a week feels excessive for Spurs and would need addressing. Supporters would back the move far more enthusiastically if there were a compromise on salary or a performance-based structure. That feels essential.

There is also the question of character and consistency, but sometimes a change of environment can reset a career. Tottenham have taken chances before and, under the right manager, bold calls can pay off.
