Edwin Diaz Meltdown Extends Dodgers’ Losing Streak to Seven

The Los Angeles Dodgers took a big loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks, losing 4-3 to snap a six-game losing streak.

For the Dodgers, things have been tough on all fronts, both hitting and pitching-wise. Mainly, the pitching staff has been the bigger issue , but at the worst times, the offense has not delivered.

After putting together a game that they should have won, it was blown by a disaster from Edwin Diaz.

The Dodgers have now lost 9 of 11, with their National League West lead down to 7.5 games.

Roki Sasaki shines again

For Roki Sasaki believers, the time to take the victory lap is now. He is officially able to put together sustained quality outings, without holding your breath about what will happen next.

He pitched six innings, allowing four hits, six hard hits, and two runs, while walking one hitter and striking out six batters.

Sasaki did not show the lights-out stuff that he showed against the Mariners during his last out, but it was what the team needed — a nice, long start that keeps the team in the games.

His start allowed the bullpen’s best to come out — Edgardo Henriquez, Tanner Scott, and Edwin Diaz — which will give the team their best chance to win more times than not.

Despite Sasaki’s best efforts to keep the team in the game, it was Edwin Diaz who blew it for LA tonight.

Diaz inherited a 3-2 lead. He hung a slider high, and it got crushed for a home run, though there was a man on first that made it a walk-off.

The Dodgers’ closer walked his first hitter after getting to a full count; he got a strikeout after, but then disaster struck.

Diaz has not looked good at all since coming off the injured list, results-wise at least.

His velocity has bounced back for the most part following his elbow surgery, but he is making too many mistake pitches. The bad pitches come from a lack of command, especially of his signature slider.

He has now allowed five runs in three innings, alongside six hits, two walks, and two home runs.

The Dodgers will look to get right on Saturday when their ace, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, takes the mound.
