As advertised Kirk Cousins bringing the fire to Raiders training camp

The Raiders are just five days into training camp and Kirk Cousins is in midseason form. The man known for his fire on and off the field has been brought plenty of it over the first week of camp. And plenty of flame throwing to back it up.

Just his energy is infectious. It started in warmups when a fan was yelling his now signature phrase "YOU LIKE THAT" to him during stretching period. Kirk could have ignored it, but instead he did some two-arm fist pumps and the fans went nuts. And the thing is, Cousins seems to genuinely love that stuff. And his teammates and coaches recognize it.

"I think it's very infectious," Raiders OC Andrew Janocko said of Cousins. "I think it just starts by just having fun and going out and preparing, putting the work in beforehand and then coming out and going to compete and loving to compete. And I think that's something that everybody sees when he has that fire, whether it's year one or year nine, year 12, whatever it may be, that as long as you have that fire and that will to compete, you put the work in beforehand, come out on the field and it should be something that's fun as you come out on the field and you see a ball completed, you see one of your teammates have success, you carry out a great fake and you pop a run. That type of stuff is all very important."

The intensity at camp has whipped up the past few days and Kirk's play has risen to with it. Day three he couldn't miss , throwing dimes and dots at will; many for touchdowns. Monday was day five and he was lighting it up again . And no matter how often he does it, that stuff never seems to get old for Cousins.

His first pass was a laser to Jalen Nailor on a crossing route. Then he made the pass of the day, placing one perfectly to tight end Ian Thomas just over the arms of Taron Johnson and Thomas pulled it in. Afterward, he gave Maxx Crosby the business, doing a celebratory fist pump right in front of him. You gotta love it.

"I think I've always kind of been pretty spirited and competitive in practice, and kind of have a little inner fire," Cousins said of his style. "Sometimes I can be relatively calm, but if you rattled the cage, then maybe you'll see a little different guy. Sometimes it's good then to get my cage rattled because it brings out the best in me."

Day one of camp, Cousins joked that getting Crosby back on the field made him nervous. Mainly because Crosby has a penchant for making a bit too much contact than he should, namely with the quarterbacks. Making Kirk's celebrations in Crosby's face something that could invite a response in kind. Crosby is also known for his energy, so there could be some fun interactions between the two of them.

For now, however, Cousins is earning his double fist pumps every day at camp. While rookie Fernando Mendoza is working to find his way and having his growing pains, Cousins is holding it down as the unquestioned leader on the field for this Raiders team.
