Barcelona journalists cancel trip to Madrid amid threats from Atlético fans over Julián Alvarez saga

A somewhat bizarre story centring on La Liga giants Barcelona and Atlético Madrid has come to the fore in the Spanish media on Sunday evening.

This comes amid claims that leading Blaugrana journalists have been forced to call off a planned trip to Madrid, owing to threats of physical violence. Gerard Romero of Jijantes is the individual to have brought the story to light.

A high-profile meeting is understood to have been pencilled in between officials from the Spotify Camp Nou and the agents of Julián Alvarez on Monday. During these discussions, the ongoing efforts of the respective parties to join forces for the season ahead will take centre stage.

With a view to as much, the aforementioned Romero, as well as other journalists from Spanish outlet Jijantes, intended to make the journey to Madrid to cover the latest developments in the saga.

But as alluded to above, at the last minute, the media members in question have been forced to call off the trip.

Speaking on a live stream on Sunday evening, Romero revealed that he and his colleagues had been threatened with potential physical assault, by a group of Atlético Madrid supporters.

It now remains to be seen how the respective parties ultimately choose to handle the situation.
