Family, detectives seek help solving shooting death of 14-year-old boy in South LA By Sid Garcia Tuesday, August 11, 2026 1:23AM Authorities asked for the public's help in solving the killing of 14-year-old boy who was gunned down while sitting in a vehicle in South Los Angeles. SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Authorities and family members on Monday asked for the public's help in solving the 2025 killing of a 14-year-old boy who was gunned down while sitting in a vehicle with a friend in South Los Angeles.
The family of Elijah Davenport joined homicide detectives at a news conference to urge anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
Elijah was sitting in a car with a 15-year-old friend in the 13100 block of Jarvis Avenue on Feb. 28, 2025, when someone opened fire from another vehicle, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Detectives on Monday released security video of a black sedan linked to the shooting. Authorities said someone from that vehicle shot at the boys.
Elijah was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his gunshot wounds.
Investigators are searching for the sedan and believe its occupants may be living in the neighborhood where the killing occurred.
During Monday's news conference, Elijah's mother and sister said they will not give up until they get answers in the case.
"He was not just a name in a news story. He was my brother. He was somebody's son, he was somebody's family, he was loved," his sister Z'Khiyah Roberson said. "Now we have to wake up every day knowing that he isn't coming home."
"My son was loved, he was important, he deserved to live, and we deserve justice," his mother Mercedes Roberson said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact detectives at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
