Week 1 football results led by Colon win in Robbie Hattan's coaching return

THREE RIVERS — A monster field goal from Jacin Selent provided the only points for the Three Rivers football team on Thursday, Aug. 27, as the Wildcats opened their season with a 14-3 home loss vs. Charlotte.

Selent booted a 51-yard field goal to put the Cats on top early. But Charlotte answered with a pair of touchdowns before halftime and led 14-3 at the break.

There were four trips to the end zone during the fourth quarter, but both defenses stood tall.

The contest was played mostly on the ground. Each team rushed more than 30 times in the contest. DJ Fuller led Three Rivers with 41 yards on the ground, Rylan Corte added 39 yards rushing. Corte also completed six passes for 116 yards, Caiden Westcomb hauled in three for 93 yards to lead the way.

Defensively, Three Rivers was led by Westcomb and Braylon Faile who each had five tackles, Tyson Rohrer, Lincoln Burkey and Landon Hoffmaster all made four stops.

Colon 44, Burr Oak 0

Colon won in Robbie Hattan's return to the sidelines as the Magi scored points in all four quarters.

Jabari Falls rushed for a pair of first-quarter touchdowns, from 19 and 36 yards. He also found the end zone in the second half on runs of 8 and 24 yards for the Magi.

Jeremiah West scored on a 20-yard TD scamper, and Dylan Smith also reached the end zone on an 11-yard run.

In total, Colon led offensively in yardage at 371-72. The Magi rushed for 243 yards.

Falls led all players with 144 yards on the ground. West rushed for 94 yards, Smith added 10. West completed 10 passes for 128 yards. David Lafler hauled in six of those for 47 yards, Lane Preston snagged two for 57 while both Falls and Michael House caught a pass as well.

Coen Miller rushed for 7 yards to lead Burr Oak. Joshua Greene completed five passes for 67 yards, Braxton Boyles was able to catch two of those for 46 yards while Miller caught two passes as well. Hunter Caudill brought in one catch.

Defensively, Boyles led Burr Oak with 10 tackles while Caudill added seven. Blake Groff totaled four, including a sack. Both Miller and Greene were able to snag interceptions on the night.

Colon's defense got 12 tackles from Tucker Davis. Falls was in one seven stops and both House and Braiden Burbank made five tackles. Each of those three recorded a sack. Smith recovered two fumbles on the night.

Marcellus 42, Van Buren 0

The ground game proved to be instrumental for the Wildcats to start the year. They piled up 316 yards on just 16 carries for an average of almost 20 yards per snap.

Martelle Enright rumbled his way for 154 yards on only six carries and scored three times. Elijah Gaborik piled up 51 yards on two carries — they both went for touchdowns.

Matthew Lehew rushed for 48 and a touchdown, Colton Eisenhart added 31 and Cale Hackenberg rushed for 32 yards. Hackenberg also completed four passes for 28 yards. Gaborik hauled in two for 22 yards while both Lehew and Alex Clapp caught one pass each.

Elijah Ditz made 11 tackles on the night, Gaborick was in on 10 tackles, they combined for seven tackles for loss and two sacks. Leighton Osborn was in on seven tackles, Zach Harrison snagged an interception while Brae Newcomb made two sacks. Gage Rumsey blocked a punt for the Wildcats as well.

Hartford 60, White Pigeon 0

The Chiefs finished with 76 yards of total offense, led by Trayton Heiman with 35 yards rushing. Heiman was also the leading tackler with eight stops and a sack. Landon Kochel recorded an interception for the Chiefs.

United 29, Constantine 27 (OT)

United was able to make a stop on the 2-point conversion attempt from the Falcons in the extra session to get the win.
