Swansea agree loan of Manchester City's Monga

Swansea City are poised to complete the loan signing of Manchester City's Jeremy Monga and will let Leo Walta leave the club on loan.

A deal has been agreed to recruit 17-year-old winger Monga, who is due to travel to Swansea to undergo a medical with a view to completing a season-long loan switch prior to Tuesday's 23:00 BST transfer deadline.

Finland international Walta was omitted from the matchday squad for Swansea's 3-0 win at Derby County on Saturday and is set to join Major League Soccer side Los Angeles.

It comes as Championship side Swansea are also closing in on the signing of Huddersfield Town midfielder Tom Iorpenda.

Monga is a product of Leicester City's academy and made his senior debut for the Foxes as a 15-year-old during the 2024-25 campaign.

He featured 30 times for Leicester in the Championship last season before signing a five-year deal with Man City earlier this summer.

During his time at Leicester, Monga became the youngest goal scorer in the Championship when he netted in his side's 2-1 defeat by Preston North End in August last year.

Upon completing the signing of Monga earlier this summer, City director of football Hugo Viana hailed the teenager as an "exciting player" and added he has "already made huge strides in his young career".

The England Under-19 international is now set to spend the remainder of the current campaign on loan with Vitor Matos' side.

The Swans have already bolstered their wide options with the additions of Elijah Just, Moussa Yeo and Joseph Opoku this summer.

Walta joined on an initial loan deal from Swedish outfit Sirius in February - a switch that was made permanent by the Swans earlier this summer.

His sole league appearance this season came as a late substitute in Swansea's opening day 2-1 win at Stoke City - although he also came off the bench in his side's 1-0 EFL Cup first round loss to Birmingham City.

The 23-year-old made 10 league appearances for Swansea in the latter stages of the 2025-26 season and scored his only goal for the club in a 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic on the final day of the campaign.

Swansea's midfield department has undergone numerous changes over recent months.

The Swans sold Ethan Galbraith to Championship rivals Stoke City earlier this summer and are also without Goncalo Franco until October after the Portuguese midfielder underwent ankle surgery.

Matos has already bolstered his options in the centre of the park by recruiting Canada international Stephen Eustaquio from Porto.

That deal came after Swansea signed New Zealand international Just - who can play out wide or centrally - from Scottish outfit Motherwell.

They also have Jay Fulton, Melker Widell and Marko Stamenic in midfield while summer signing Moussa Yeo, who is predominantly a winger, can operate as an attacking midfielder.

Swansea - who remain unbeaten in the league this season - return to Championship action against Watford at the Swansea.com Stadium on Tuesday night (19:45 BST).
