Maresca outlines his main target for pre-season game against Inter

Enzo Maresca says it’s his duty to introduce new ideas after taking over as City manager this summer.

The Italian is set to take charge of his first game on Saturday as we face Internazionale in Hong Kong as our pre-season Tour of Asia gets underway in earnest.

Maresca took over the manager’s role at City this summer, replacing Pep Guardiola, who departed at the end of last season after 10 trophy-laden seasons in charge.

Our new boss is keen to put his stamp on the squad – and says the main objective of the game against Inter is to see his new concepts begin to take shape.

“It is important we started ten days ago all together,” said Maresca.

“Now we introduce some new concepts, and we want to see something tomorrow. That’s the most important thing.

“Tomorrow is the first game. Always it is an opportunity to improve, to get better. We are now in a process where it is important to play these kinds of games, for the physical condition. We are happy to be here, to train here and play the game tomorrow.

“Every manager can bring something different. It is my target – my duty - to introduce new ideas.”

Due to the heavy involvement of City players at this summer’s World Cup, Maresca is currently without a number of senior players.

City arrived in Asia with a squad heavy on Academy players, with Ruben Dias, Matheus Nunes and Omar Marmoush set to arrive in Hong Kong tomorrow and strengthen Maresca’s options.

But Maresca, who managed City’s Elite Development Squad during a highly-successful campaign in 2020/21 that saw us win the PL2 title, says he has been impressed by the quality of the youngsters at his disposable.

“At the moment, I am very satisfied with the ones we have here,” Maresca said.

“Many young players, good players, full of energy.

“Then when the season starts, we will have all our senior players and they are important for the season, no doubt.”
