In the ever-changing world of college football, Jedd Fisch is full of ideas on how to keep the Washington Huskies at the forefront of the modern world.
On Wednesday, Fisch made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show and was asked what rules he'd like to see enacted around college football, and he was quick to call out what he wants to see from some of his peers.
"We have to start with making coaches' contracts enforceable," Fisch said. "When we don't have coaches' contracts enforceable, we send such a bad message. We use buyouts, but in the NFL they make it very clear, you need permission to leave."
As rumors swirled throughout the offseason that Florida, Michigan, and UCLA were all interested in his services, while Lane Kiffin held a bidding war between the Gators, Ole Miss, and LSU, before eventually choosing the Tigers, Fisch wants to see coaches held to a higher standard.
"And then the next part of it is, we have rules that in the NFL, you have contracts where you don't have the option to leave until you get to that option year, and then the team decides whether they're going to move on from you earlier in your contract, because you're getting paid, you're an employee...I know we don't use the word pay-for-play, but these kids are getting compensated for what they're doing, and we've got to make sure are able to have some rules that we all abide by."
As he enters the third season of a seven-year deal, his comments feel like a great sign of his intentions to stick around on Montlake and continue to build his program.
