Colts Say QB is Back 'Like He Never Got Hurt

In no small part, that was due to the injury of quarterback Daniel Jones, who was already playing through a fractured fibula when he tore his Achilles tendon on Dec. 7 .

Given the importance of the QB position and the high level Jones had been playing at before getting hurt, many eyes have been on Jones during training camp.

Despite some worries, though, Jones is showing the spark from the first half of last season, his teammates say.

Jones may be coming off of a devastating Achilles tear, but he's apparently unafraid to show off how well he's healed.

At camp on Saturday, he ran for a score on what appeared to be a designed run, detailed JJ Stankevitz of Colts.com .

"He looks like he never got hurt," tight end Mo Alie-Cox said. "He's throwing dimes left and right on the field, getting out the pocket, scrambling and different things like that."

Left guard Quenton Nelson added that Jones has "been incredible" in camp.

"He's back like he's never left," Nelson said. "He worked so hard to get here. It's been awesome to see."

And that should scare other teams, as the Colts were 8-5 when Jones was playing.

He racked up 3,101 passing yards and 19 touchdowns against eight interceptions in that limited span, and assuming he fractured his fibula in week 11 — his initial injury was reported in the bye week after this game — the Colts were 8-2 when Jones was healthy.

It's unclear how much — or if — Jones will play in the Colts' preseason games against the New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions, but it seems like he'll be back for sure for the regular season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 13.

That's just over nine months since he tore that Achilles tendon, but given advances in medicine, what would've seemed like an impossible recovery timeline is becoming more normalized.

Just look at Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, who was back in less than 10 months after tearing his Achilles tendon .

Tatum also finished the NBA season healthy, which would be another promising sign for Jones and the Colts.
