I Want Blood This Year’: Jaylen Brown On His Mentality With 76ers In 2026-27

Hours after Jaylen Brown was awarded the Key to the City and State by Boston’s Mayor , the former Boston Celtics star sat down for a Twitch stream, where he discussed what comes next in his basketball career with the Philadelphia 76ers .

While talking about the process of moving from Boston to Philadelphia, he began discussing his expectations for 2026-27.

“I’m grateful to the city of Philadelphia already, and I haven’t even been there that long. I’m grateful that they’ve been a warm embrace because, for me, it’s all about respect. I’m a type of guy that’s going to earn his respect. So all my Philly fans in the chat, send some love.”

“I look forward to earning every ounce of respect from the city that I possibly can. I don’t need no handouts. I don’t need no special treatment, no catering, like not being somebody who the organization is always catering to or babying. I don’t need none of that; I’m prepared for war,” Brown said on Twitch .

“I’m prepared for everything to go right and for everything to go wrong. That’s just how life is, and I’m looking forward to the whole journey… You don’t get opportunities as you get older. I’m 10 years in; I’m about to be on my 11th season.”

“You don’t always get the opportunities that you think, so you just got to take advantage of the talent level and do whatever you possibly can to ensure everything goes right. Because at the end of the day it’s a team, so what you put into it is what you get out of it. So that’s what I’m looking forward to, man; I’m putting my best foot forward.”

“Whatever the team needs, I’ll be listening and waiting, but my mentality is to kill, you know what I mean? I feel like I want blood this year. I feel like that’s the mentality: I want blood… I feel like people don’t understand, there’s so much politics behind closed doors… But it is what it is, and that motivates me even more to come out and show you who I am versus you trying to create these narratives and these storylines,” Brown added.

Several sources claimed narratives like a rift with Jayson Tatum or always acting like the smartest person in the room triggered the Celtics into trading Jaylen Brown to the 76ers. Brown wants to prove these narratives had absolutely no substance.

Entering the prime of his NBA career, Jaylen Brown is coming off an MVP-caliber season where he finished sixth in MVP voting after leading the Celtics to the second seed in the East despite not having Jayson Tatum healthy for the entire season. He ended 2025-26 averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while shooting 47.7% from the field and 34.7% from the three-point line.

All eyes are now on the 76ers to see how Jaylen Brown’s performance will elevate now that he is surrounded by stars like Tyrese Maxey, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid.
