Karros' Collision Doesn't Derail Rockies From Win

There have been highs and lows in the 2026 MLB season for the Colorado Rockies. On Tuesday night, a situation that could have been a major low thankfully ended up being less than consequential in a game.

Third baseman Kyle Karros collied with shortstop Ezequiel Tovar as both were going to field a groundball from Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte. They ended up colliding, sending Karros down to the ground at Chase Field in Phoenix.

After getting checked out, Karros walked off the field under his own power. Karros, though, flexed his powerful arms in hitting a home run during Tuesday night's victory.

The Diamondbacks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on solo home runs from Marte and Corbin Carroll. Rockies starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano, though, didn't let this derail his performance for manager Warren Schaeffer.

Sugano sharp for Rockies

In fact, Sugano didn't allow another run and finished off six innings of work in pretty good shape. He only gave up those two earned runs, didn't walk a batter, and struck out five Diamondbacks. Seeing a starter go six innings must have been a wonderful sight to Schaeffer's eyes. Sugano goes to 12-5 this season.

Jimmy Herget, Brennan Bernardino, and Jordan Romano worked the final three innings, keeping the Arizona offense in check. Romano earned his 11th save this season.

In the top of the sixth inning, with Tovar (who else?) on base, Karros smashed his 10th home run over the left-center field wall. That tied things up at 2-2 between the Rockies and Diamondbacks.

Catcher Hunter Goodman took a 1-1 pitch with no one out in the top of the seventh inning and hit his first triple this season. Goodman sent the ball over Arizona center fielder Ryan Waldschmidt's head. Then, with one out and Goodman still on third base, Mickey Moniak connected for a sacrifice fly. Goodman scored and the Rockies went up 3-2.

Nolan Arenado had a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth for the Diamondbacks. But James McCann and Tim Tawa couldn't make anything else out of it.

Ballgame. Rockies win 3-2.

Colorado was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position while Arizona went 0-for-4. This wasn't an offensive explosion on the field between these two teams.

With the series tied at 1-1, the Rockies and Diamondbacks will play for a series win on Wednesday afternoon in the Valley of the Sun.
