There’s lots of news this morning, so let’s get straight to it. David Ornstein doesn’t have this yet but Fabrizio Romano (sigh) does — Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement for the season long loan of Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.
Sarr’s (temporary) exit has been in the works for a while now but Juventus was the most recent club to join in the fray for Pape’s signature. This appears to be a typical Juventus deal — a season long loan with an option to purchase that Juventus may or may not decide to pursue next summer. I’m told there’s a €3m loan fee and a €28m purchase option; it’s not clear yet whether or not that can eventually turn into an obligation.
Sarr was super young when Spurs purchased him from Metz. He’s less young now but still has plenty of football ahead of him. He didn’t develop the way Spurs thought he would but there’s a lot to like if you’re Juventus — he’s got a motor that lasts for days, is a willing presser, and has a long shot that… sometimes… hits the target. I like him, but he’s clearly not in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans.
Onward we go.
