FLORIDA TODAY Week 2 Super 10 football rankings

It was a largely successful week for Brevard County teams during the first full week of the regular season.

As expected, there’s movement in the FLORIDA TODAY Week 2 Super 10 football rankings after dominant wins by Merritt Island and Melbourne in all-Brevard matchups and Eau Gallie suffering its heaviest defeat in seven years.

Here is the Week 2 Super 10 rankings with all teams playing their next regular season games Aug. 28.

1. Merritt Island (1-0)

Previously: 2

After a competitive first half where Merritt Island faced two deficits, the Mustangs flexed their muscles against an inexperienced Cocoa team in a 44-19 victory.

The Mustangs are quarterbacked by USF commit Kevin Verpaele, but it was the running game that shone scoring five touchdowns. It was the first time Verpaele had not thrown a touchdown pass since Sept. 6, 2024, ending a streak of 20 games.

Merritt Island seeks to bring that balanced attack against another high-powered offense in Melbourne on Aug. 28.

2. Melbourne (1-0)

Previously: 4

The Bulldogs' game plan on Aug. 21 against Heritage was simple: hand the ball to sophomore Tyrese Jefferson early and often.

Jefferson posted the best individual performance in Week 1, rushing 31 times for 314 yards and four touchdowns. He comprised all but 47 yards of Melbourne’s total offense in a 35-10 win.

While Jefferson stole the headlines, the Melbourne defense featured four players with at least a dozen tackles to go with three sacks and two takeaways.

The Bulldogs' defense will be challenged by Merritt Island’s offense in what could be a shootout Aug. 28.

3. Viera (1-0)

Previously: 3

The Hawks remain in the third position after a hard-fought 25-20 win at Rockledge in the Backyard Brawl.

Viera senior Duke Butler picked up where he left off last year with 143 rushing yards and two touchdowns. In his first start at quarterback, sophomore Jamaal Crittington threw for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

The Hawks secondary broke up six Rockledge passes in the win with seniors Dimitri Jean and Jaycob Klein posting two passes defensed.

While not as explosive as Merritt Island or Melbourne, Viera continues to be one of the most consistent teams in the county as it heads to Sebastian River on Aug. 28.

4. Eau Gallie (0-1)

Previously: 1

It was a rude awakening for Eau Gallie in its season opener against Class 1A state semifinalist Carrollwood Day in Tampa.

The Commodores turned the ball over six times on four interceptions by quarterback Joseph Allen and two fumbles. Carrollwood Day ended the game with 449 yards of total offense in a 41-7 rout.

Eau Gallie looks to quickly turn the page on Aug. 28 at Heritage in a game featuring two teams coming off sizable defeats in Week 1.

5. Melbourne Central Catholic (1-0)

Previously: 8

Melbourne Central Catholic secured one of the most impressive wins in the county on Aug. 21, blowing out fellow Class 1A regional semifinalist Victory Christian Academy 44-12.

Hustlers sophomore quarterback Trenton Washington excelled in his first career start at MCC. Washington completed 23-of-29 passes for 352 yards and five touchdowns. Junior Colton Brown and senior Grady Bonenberger totaled over 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns each.

Defensively, MCC senior Isaiah Crockett intercepted two passes and junior Will Warren led the unit with 16 tackles. Four Hustlers finished with at least 10 tackles.

MCC faces another Class 1A playoff team from a year ago in Benjamin on Aug. 28.

6. Titusville (1-0)

Previously: 7

It was a dramatic opening game for Titusville, defeating Class 5A Oviedo on the last kick of the game thanks to a 42-yard field goal by junior Calvin Jorgeson. The junior missed his first two kicks of the game before hitting the game winner.

In his Terriers debut, quarterback Remy Vigne threw for 214 yards and one touchdown. It was a balanced offensive attack led by senior Elijah Harvey, who combined for 198 total yards and two touchdowns.

Titusville won its season opener for the first time in three years. It’ll look to carry the momentum on the road at Holy Trinity on Aug, 28.

7. Astronaut (1-0)

Previously: 10

Astronaut prevailed in a shootout against Class 6A Tohopekaliga 43-39 to win its third-straight season opener.

The War Eagles got two touchdowns from senior Jaquan Hagans and one from sophomores Jayden Brown and King Rainey. Defensively, senior Riley Florence recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown on a strip sack.

Astronaut heads to New Smyrna Beach to begin a three-game road trip on Aug. 28.

8. Holy Trinity (1-0)

Previously: 9

In its first game back in FHSAA, Holy Trinity broke a 7-7 halftime score with 13 points in the second half to win its season opener over Bayside.

The Tigers face a stiffer test against confident Titusville in their first FHSAA meeting of 2026 on Aug. 28.

9. Cocoa (0-1)

Previously: 5

The Tigers showed their potential in the first half against Merritt Island, scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions.

Cocoa sophomore quarterback Kadin Claflin-Coy showed his dual-threat capability with 219 passing yards and 38 rushing yards. He connected with six different pass catchers, led by senior Tank White’s eight receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown.

They’ll look to glean the positives from the first half against Class 6A Fort Pierce Central on Aug. 28.

10. Rockledge (0-1)

Previously: NR

Rockledge, after a summer transfer exodus, showed its competitiveness against an experienced Viera team only losing by five points at home. Matthew Ford led the Raiders with two touchdown receptions.

Rockledge will look to enter the win column against Spruce Creek on Aug. 28.
