5-tar QB Donald Tabron II commits to Texas A&M

I’m not gonna tell you that you should be diving head first into Class of 2028 recruiting (signing day is 16 months away), but this is definitely one you should pay attention to. On Saturday evening, the Aggies landed a monster commitment, securing a pledge from 5-star QB Donald Tabron II out of Detroit, MI.

Tabron is ranked as the No. 29 recruit nationally, the No. 3 QB and the No. 2 player in Michigan in the 2028 class, according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings. He chose the Aggies over LSU and Oregon, and we’re hearing that a big part of his decision hinged on the fact that Jayden Daniels’ recent cease-and-desist letter prohibits LSU taking recruits with 5 stars (rimshot).

Tabron is just the second recruit in A&M’s 2028 class (joining Louisiana edge Chance Archangel), and that class is currently ranked No. 6 nationally (please don’t pay attention to class rankings this early). But that’s not the real story anyway. The real story is Mike Elko getting far and away the highest-rated QB commit in his time as A&M’s head coach. While the Aggies have not hurt for blue chip players (they currently have the No. 1 class for 2027), landing a top flight QB was something that was missing in previous classes. This instantly becomes a huge addition both for A&M’s on-field prospects in the future, but also as a catalyst for building another elite recruiting class and stacking talent in College Station.
