NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) -- Normal Community is an annual playoff contender in our area. Last season the Ironmen went 7-3 and made the playoffs but lost in the first round.
Normal will return six starters on offense from a unit that averaged an astounding 41 points per game. That includes veteran quarterback Lucas Beaty, who can beat opponents with both his arm and his legs. He's ready for his second season as the starting signal caller and head coach Jason Drengwitz says his offense is in good hands.
"It's the biggest deal in high school football offensively, really at any level to get there, just to have continuity offensively when your guy is as good as he is it makes you feel really good. Let's just sleep well at night," said Drengwitz."
"I think I have a little bit more input," said Beaty. "Last year I was kind of get a little more feel for the job, but this year I feel like I've built a connection with my O-line, my, my receivers, my running back, my coaches to the point where they give me a little more freedom and just understanding what I'm supposed to do with the offense."
Normal Community will open up its season on August 21 at Bloomington.
