Now, Peralta is generating interest from a team in the AL East.
According to FanSided's Robert Murray , the Tampa Bay Rays are interested in acquiring Peralta from the Mets.
"The Tampa Bay Rays are exploring a multitude of options to upgrade the major-league roster and have expressed interest in Los Angeles Angels infielder Zach Neto and New York Mets right-hander Freddy Peralta in addition to Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal, according to major-league sources," Murray wrote.
With the Rays being at the top of the AL East standings, it makes sense that they are interested in so many players, including Peralta. They are in a prime position to be buyers, and Peralta would have the potential to be a strong addition to their rotation if he bounced back.
Peralta has had trouble in his first season with the Mets, as evidenced by his 5-9 record and 4.99 ERA in 22 appearances. However, he also had a 17-6 record and a 2.70 ERA just last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, so he could bounce back if given a much-needed fresh start.
It will be intriguing to see if the Rays can strike a deal for Peralta. Perhaps playing in a smaller market again could help the nine-year veteran get things back on track.
