Will soon be unveiled’ – Liverpool take significant step closer to completing next signing

Liverpool appear to have taken a significant step closer to completing their next signing, going by an update from Fabrizio Romano on Monday morning.

The transfer reporters broke the news late on Friday night ( via X ) that the Reds had agreed a deal to sign Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan from Barcelona, with the 27-year-old playing no part in the LaLiga champions’ two matches over the weekend.

Darwin Nunez effectively confirmed the move by publicly wishing his Uruguay teammate well at Anfield , and while it hasn’t yet been announced by the Merseyside club, it seems only a matter of time before it’s made official.

Early this morning, Romano took to X to report that the necessary documentation for the loan move has been exchanged and that the transaction should be fully confirmed imminently.

He posted:  ‘ Liverpool and Barcelona have exchanged all documents for Ronald Araujo deal. Everything signed as Araujo will soon be unveiled as new #LFC defender. Exclusive story, confirmed.’

Araujo will be a most welcome addition for Liverpool

For the Reds to sign the captain of the LaLiga champions on loan for the season, bringing in an experienced high-level operator to bolster a problematic position in the squad, is a most welcome development with less than a fortnight to go until our Premier League campaign starts.

Some concerns have been raised over Araujo’s temperament and tendency for errors, but you simply don’t play more than 200 times for Barcelona’s first team unless you’re a very capable footballer.

Not only would the Uruguayan provide a much-needed centre-back addition to partner Virgil van Dijk, he can also cover on the right flank, where both Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong have endured multiple injury issues over the past year.

Liverpool’s need for defensive reinforcement was underlined again yesterday as, for the second weekend in a row, a 2-0 lead turned into an eventual defeat. Ifeanyi Ndukwe was one of our best performers on the day, but the teenage centre-back is set to depart on loan as he doesn’t currently qualify for a UK work permit .

Thankfully, it now seems a matter of when and not if Araujo’s loan move to Anfield will be confirmed, and hopefully he’ll be in a position to make his first appearance in either of the two games against Como next Sunday, should the transaction be completed before then.
