The Florida State Seminoles had to rely on their run game quite a bit in 2025 due to the inconsistency of former quarterback Tommy Castellanos. As a team, they racked up 2,624 yards in 12 games.
Running the ball well is something that FSU has done well under head coach Mike Norvell, who is back taking over play-calling duties. There's some big-time talent in the room for this season, and with transfer quarterback Ashton Daniels taking over as the starter, with the inconsistencies he's had, a strong run game will be beneficial and take some of the responsibility off of him.
With fall camp kicking off on Wednesday and the regular season set to begin in a month, let's dive into the running back room at Florida State.
RB Departures
Gavin Sawchuk: Sawchuk led all FSU running backs last year with 486 yards and eight touchdowns (second on the team in both categories) after playing with the Oklahoma Sooners for three seasons. He transferred to the Northwestern Wildcats for his final two years of eligibility.
Jaylin Lucas: Lucas had some pretty high expectations in 2025 as a dual-threat guy. However, he finished with just 160 yards rushing and 88 yards receiving. He transferred to the Tulane Green Wave with two years of eligibility remaining.
Kam Davis: Davis was a member of the 2024 recruiting class as a four-star prospect. Unfortunately, Davis could never find his footing with the Seminoles. A lower-body injury forced him to miss the last several games as a freshman, and an undisclosed injury limited him to four games as a sophomore. He transferred to the Liberty Flames after registering 221 rushing yards and one touchdown plus 67 receiving yards on five receptions.
Roydell Williams: Williams was looked at as a valuable piece to the Seminoles' rushing attack in 2024 after transferring from the Alabama Crimson Tide . However, his two years in Tallahassee were forgettable with just 99 yards on 41 carries and two touchdowns plus 65 receiving yards on seven receptions. He's currently trying to find an NFL home after a few rookie minicamp invites.
Incoming RBs
Quintrevion Wisner (Texas): Wisner played three years with the Texas Longhorns and was a very productive player. After 73 yards as a freshman, Wisner racked up 1,064 yards and five touchdowns to go with 311 receiving yards and one touchdown on 44 receptions as a sophomore. Last season, Wisner led Texas with 597 yards and scored three touchdowns, plus 146 yards on 22 receptions and one score. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Amari Thomas: Thomas committed in the 2026 recruiting class as a four-star prospect after decommitting from the South Carolina Gamecocks. He logged over 4,500 yards and 74 touchdowns in high school, and his dual-threat ability gives him a chance to rise up the depth chart after turning heads in the spring.
Gemari Sands (Florida Atlantic): Sands was with the Florida Atlantic Owls for three seasons due to taking a redshirt as a freshman. He finished with 582 yards and three touchdowns plus 43 receptions for 277 yards. He has two years of eligibility left.
Projected Depth Chart
Starter: Ousmane Kromah
Backup: Quintrevion Wisner
Kromah showed his potential as a true freshman with 408 yards (third on the team) on 72 carries. He's perfectly fit to be the bellcow for the Seminoles' rushing attack, and his receiving skills are underrated.
Wisner has the experience and the production to be a nice complement to Kromah. He doesn't have great long speed, but his ability to make guys miss in the open field makes him a threat to be a productive piece in FSU's offense.
Other RBs to know
Samuel Singleton Jr.: Singleton has been with Florida State for three seasons. He's coming off his best campaign as he rushed for 360 yards on 51 carries and scored four touchdowns. The burst and explosiveness of Singleton make him a viable threat to challenge Wisner for the RB2 spot. He will play regardless, along with Kromah and Wisner, as FSU will run a lot of 21 personnel with Norvell calling plays.
