Jenny Shin ends 10-year drought with wire-to-wire win at Women's Scottish Open

Jenny Shin ended a 10-year victory drought with an emphatic two-stroke win at the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open .

She'd missed her last three cuts coming into Dundonald Links, but there's something about golf in Scotland that speaks to the South Korean . The Scottish Open is her favorite stop on tour, and she never misses it.

"My first one didn't really feel like a win at the time," she said," I didn't feel like I deserved it. It felt very accidental. But this one definitely feels a lot different. This one feels like I earned it. I worked hard for it."

Shin, 33, watched her five-shot lead build to eight and then dwindle to two after three-straight bogeys on Nos. 6-8. A clutch par save on the ninth followed by birdies on Nos. 10 and 12 got her back on track.

She walked to the 18th tee with a three-shot lead and even a wayward drive into the hay couldn't keep her from getting the job done.

"We were actually getting timed for a while," said Shin, "and that helped me quite a bit because I was very impatient the entire day and just wanted to get it over with."

Shin closed with a 75 to finish at 9 under and become the first woman in 30 years to have a gap of 10 years between wins. Vicki Fergon waited a dozen years between her second and third career victories in 1984 and 1996.

Shin moved to the U.S. with her family from South Korea at age 9 and became the youngest player to win the U.S. Girls' Junior in 2006 at age 13. Shin turned professional in 2010 and won her first LPGA title in 2016 at the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout. She'd go through a number valleys over the years, including difficulty even taking the club back.

Now, after 3,738 days, she has found the winner's circle once again.

Major champion A Lim Kim finished solo second after a closing 68 moved her to 7 under for the tournament. Thailand's Pajaree Annanarukarn came in third, four strokes back.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda zoomed up the board after a closing 69 moved her to a share of 16th.

Korda said it was great prep for the final major of the season next week at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

"Experienced everything this week, sunshine, a little bit of warmth, and sideways rain, gusty winds, but that's a given out here," said Korda. "So just trying to get into the mindset for next week and also like bounces are to the going to go your way. There's so many things that are going on during your shot that you really have to stay committed."
