Police are investigating a hate crime after someone broke into a Brighton Park neighborhood home and vandalized it Monday on the Southwest Side.
The owner called officers after arriving at his home that is being renovated around 9 a.m. in the 3100 block of West Pershing Street and finding a racist comment graffitied into the building, according to a police report obtained by the Sun-Times.
The owner, a man of Asian descent, found that someone had damaged three electrical panels, removed copper pipes and wrote “F*ck China” in black paint on a wall, the report said. He told officers he believed the intruder may have used a ladder to enter the home through a second floor window and left through the home's front door.
No arrests were made.
