Top Alabama commit reportedly goes unsigned following 2026 MLB draft

The deadline to sign following the 2026 MLB draft has officially passed, and it appears one of the Alabama Crimson Tide 's top commits will be playing in Tuscaloosa next season after all.

That commit is Hudson DeVaughan, a right-handed pitcher out of Mooresville High School in Indiana, who is among the list of drafted players that did not sign, per D1Baseball's Mark Etheridge . As a result, DeVaughan will reportedly now head to college next season to play for the Crimson Tide where he projects as an impact player as a freshman.

One of the top names in Alabama's class, DeVaughan was a 19th round pick earlier this month by the Kansas City Royals, selected with the No. 569 overall pick. The right-hander ranked as the No. 138 overall prospect available in the 2026 MLB draft, per MLB Pipeline .

This also marks the second consecutive year Alabama has seen a top high school commit bypass the professional route after being selected in the MLB draft. Last year, both Myles Upchurch and Caleb Barnett were drafted in the 19th round by the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs, respectively, prior to attending Alabama.

In addition to DeVaughan, there were a few additional Alabama commits who were also selected in the MLB draft, two of which were pitchers via the transfer portal in Dylan Marionneaux (Northwestern State) and Garrett Lambert (Mercer). The duo was drafted by the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies in the fourth and sixth rounds, respectively, while another high school pitcher, Cole Dorland, was drafted in the 13th round by the Atlanta Braves.

Each of those three arms signed with those professional teams, as did Alabama's four MLB draft picks in Justin Lebron, Tyler Fay, Zane Adams, and Brady Neal.
