The fire quickly grew from an estimated 100 acres to 1,000 acres as it spread to the 5 Freeway.
California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert, closing all northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway between Smokey Bear Road and SR-138.
Not long after the first SigAlert was issued, the fire jumped to the other side of the 5 Freeway with winds in the area. A second SigAlert was issued, closing all southbound lanes between Frazier Mountain Park Road and Smokey Bear Road.
L.A. County issued an evacuation order for residents in zone GOR-HUNGRYVALLEY-A. Evacuation warnings were issued for zones GOR-E001-A and GOR-HUNGRYVALLEY-B.
Kern County also issued an evacuation warning for zone KRN-545. Residents in the area are being asked to prepare to leave.
