Jacoby Brissett contract: Unknown details still to come

When the Arizona Cardinals reconvene Tuesday for practice after a day off Monday, it will feature quarterback Jacoby Brissett working with the starters for the first time since practice began last Wednesday.

That was solidified when Brissett signed a restructured contract Sunday that increases his compensation this season from a base salary of $4.88 million to a reported $15.5 million in guaranteed compensation with the ability to earn another $6 million with incentives.

The breakdown will be known in the coming days, with it possible there is a signing bonus along with void years that will mitigate the salary cap charge.

Prior to the deal, Brissett’s cap figure was $9.19 million, which was sixth on the team. If the entire $10.62 million increase counts against the cap this year, that total would raise the cap charge to $19.81 million and create the highest total on the current roster, just north of safety Budda Baker’s $19.22 million cap hit.

The Cardinals are carrying $46.57 million in dead money against the cap following the release of quarterback Kyler Murray.

If, for example, there is a $6 million signing bonus as part of the $15.5 million total, along with two void years, only $2 million of the bonus would count this year. That would lower the potential cap charge by $4 million.

It’s not out of the question that the Cardinals elected to have all the new money count this year because their current cap space available for the top 51 players is $35.05 million, according to  overthecap.com .

However, there might be more money coming off the cap this year if there is a contract extension with left tackle Paris Johnson Jr., whose current charge is $8.93 million.

As for the incentives, there could be statistical accomplishments and/or money earned for games the Cardinals win with Brissett as the starter. The positive for the latter is that only one game would count against this year’s cap because that’s how many games were won in 2025 with Brissett under center.

All likely to be earned incentives and unlikely to be earned incentives are based on results from the previous season.
