Liverpool midfielder approves audacious move to hometown club
It’s shaping up to be a period of great upheaval in the Liverpool midfield.
Andoni Iraola has already lost Curtis Jones from his selection - with the homegrown playmaker joining Inter Milan for £30m.
Others could follow.
A late decision will be taken on James McConnell - who is attracting attention from around the Championship. It’s easy to believe that Harvey Elliott will be on his way too should a decent offer be made.
Stefan Bajcetic moves closer to Celta Vigo
However in recent days it’s the future of Stefan Bajcetic that has come under the most immediate scrutiny.
News has broken recently that the 21-year-old is wanted for an audacious move by his original club Celta Vigo .
Bajcetic hasn’t played first-team football for the Reds since May 2024 - spending time out on loan as well as dealing with severe injuries since that date.
With only one year left on his deal Liverpool decision-makers are going to have to make a call on the Spain under-21 international very soon.
Bajcetic wants to rip up Liverpool contract
Celta’s proposal involves asking Liverpool to rip up Bajcetic’s contract with less than 12 months to run.
And then the LaLiga outfit would place their former youth team prospect back with their Celta Fortuna side - effectively the reserve team - in order to build up his fitness.
Given his age he would be free to switch between Fortuna and Claudio Giraldez’s first team - with Bajcetic having worked with the tactician previously in the youth ranks at Celta.

Bajcetic approves Celta Vigo plan
Galicia Press is now reporting that the deal is “gaining momentum” and that the midfielder has offered his seal of approval to return homeward via the contract cancellation.
“ Stefan Bajcetic 's return to Celta Vigo is gaining momentum as the most significant addition to their reserve team,” the report reads.
“The midfielder is looking to terminate the remaining year of his contract with Liverpool in order to return to his hometown, where his family lives.
“This roadmap to return the player to top-flight football has the player's approval, and he is pleased with the prospect of returning to his home region.”
Bajcetic held back by injuries
Bajcetic signed for Liverpool back in 2020 - going on to make an early breakthrough under Jurgen Klopp. His career has stalled however in between loan spells at Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas and injuries have also taken their toll.
Bajcetic is back in training this preseason but could be now set for a swift departure in order to put his once-promising career back together again.
