NBC issues health update after NFL host faints live on air and requires stitches

NBC Sports has issued a health update after NFL host Michael Holley fainted live on air during Friday’s edition of PFT Live .

The 56-year-old host suddenly lost his balance during the final 30 minutes of the show before falling out of his chair, leaving viewers and co-host Mike Florio concerned.

The incident happened during the weekday programme, which airs from 7am ET on Peacock, NBCSN and SiriusXM 85. Holley had been appearing from his home studio when he began to sway and blink repeatedly before falling out of frame.

Florio immediately stopped the conversation after noticing something was wrong with Holley.

‘What happened to Michael Holley?’ Florio asked on air, before adding: ‘Did he just pass out?’

The programme then went to a commercial break.

NBC Sports and the PFT Live account later reassured viewers that Holley was fine, although he had suffered an injury during the fall.

‘During Friday’s @PFT_Live, Michael Holley fainted on the air. Michael is fine, except for the five stitches in his knee from the cut he suffered when he fell from his chair,’ the show said.

Florio later explained what had happened, revealing that Holley had not eaten or drunk anything before the early morning broadcast.

His home studio was also running very warm, and Holley became overheated before losing consciousness.

Thankfully, Holley was moving again within a minute of the fall, and Florio confirmed that his wife had been contacted. The presenter later told his co-host that he was fine.

The incident did, however, expose a problem behind the scenes.

Florio revealed that the production team did not have emergency contact information for Holley’s wife readily available. He had encountered a similar issue himself two years earlier after experiencing what he believed could have been a heart attack during a live programme.

‘Moving forward, we’ll have emergency contact information for all co-hosts who appear from home instantly available,’ Florio wrote.

NBC also chose not to re-air Friday’s episode on Peacock, NBCSN or Sky Sports and removed clips of the incident from social media.

Holley has been part of NBC Sports since 2020 and became a rotating PFT Live co-host in 2024. For a programme that has been running for 15 years, Florio described Friday’s incident as something the show had never experienced before.
