Former Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez appears to have confirmed Ronald Araújo's transfer to Anfield with a social media post. Araujo, 27, is in the process of joining the Reds on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

Liverpool, who will cover his full wages, hold the option to sign Araújo permanently for €55 million (£47/$63.5 million) next summer. The versatile defender's move has yet to be officially announced by either club, but Núñez got ahead of the news with a post on Sunday.

The striker, who lines up alongside Araújo for Uruguay, shared a heartfelt message on X. "I wish you the best in this great club, friend," Núñez wrote, via The Mirror .

Núñez's post followed Barcelona manager Hansi Flick's explanation of the reasoning behind Araújo's exit. "I think Ronald is a great guy and a fantastic player," Flick said during a press conference.

"I think our style of play, that we want to play, is a little bit different. He's a player that has a lot of speed, he's physical and very strong and also with the ball he's quite good.

"We couldn't include him like I wanted and also I think he wants to make something new. You (Barcelona journalists) know it more than me because in the past, something has happened, so this affected him.

"I saw him this morning and I said goodbye and I think he was very happy and Liverpool is also a fantastic club. I wish him all the best because he deserves it. He's a fantastic guy, fantastic player and was a great captain."

Araújo will head to Anfield to bolster Liverpool's defensive options amid an injury crisis at the back. Andoni Iraola's squad is severely lacking in center-back depth, with Joe Gomez having sustained a muscle problem during pre-season while both Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni continue to recover from long-term injuries.

At right-back, where Araújo is equally capable of operating, Conor Bradley has been out of action since January and Jeremie Frimpong's availability remains a concern following a disrupted debut season at the club.

The 27-year-old is expected to finalize his transfer this week and could make his first appearance when Liverpool welcome Como 1907 in their final preseason friendly on Sunday.
