Recapping Travis Hunter's snaps, play on Day 2 of Jaguars-Bucs joint practice

Day 2 of joint practices between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was another defensive-heavy day for Travis Hunter.

According to John Shipley of Jaguars on SI, Hunter did take a few starting reps at wide receiver during the 7-on-7 periods. Jamal St. Cyr of News4Jax posted that Hunter did have a short reception on a throw from Trevor Lawrence.

However, Hunter quickly transitioned to defense for the 11-on-11 drills, where he spent the remainder of the day.

Over the last week-plus of practices, this has been the norm for Hunter. While early on in training camp the majority of his snaps came on defense, at that time, he still saw steady opportunities at wide receiver. But as of late, it's been -- almost -- all defense for Hunter.

Reading between the lines, this potentially tells us that Hunter is in store for a heavy defensive workload in Week 1 against Cleveland. That, of course, doesn't come as a surprise, with the expectation for much of the offense being that Hunter would be a starting cornerback for Jacksonville.

What does this recent practice workload mean for Travis Hunter at wide receiver?

Well, that remains to be seen.

I do not think that Hunter's usage on defense recently means that he won't play any wide receiver. I still would guess that he's rotated in.

But how many snaps he plays in Week 1 or Week 2 is still a question mark. Realistically, that snap count could fluctuate from week to week with the matchups and in-game situations dictating what Hunter's usage is.

Throughout the offseason, the Jaguars have remained committed to utilizing Hunter as a two-way player.
