FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason appeared to have suffered a significant knee injury on the final play of the team’s 13-13 tie against the Patriots in the preseason opener on Thursday night.
Mason was standing on the sidelines when the play came to the edge, and although he tried to move out of the way, Mason still took contact and went down to the ground in obvious pain.
Indianapolis doctors attended to Mason on the field and took him to the locker room for evaluation.
“He’s getting evaluated for his knee right now,” Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen said.
Any further details on Mason’s knee were not immediately available after the game.
“He got rolled up, right on the sideline,” Steichen said. “We’ll see.”
