Chicago Bears offense ‘wins’ the day (still no pads though)

The Chicago Bears beat reporters were all pretty much in agreement in their praise for the offense on day two of training camp practice.

“Good day overall for the offense,” shared Bear Reports’ Zack Pearson, who had a nice recap thread about the day.

“Massive day for Luther Burden, he was the most targeted receiver on the field,” wrote FOX32’s Devan Kaney. “Caleb Williams looked great, completing the majority of his passes.”

CHGO’s Adam Hoge shared that it was “One of Caleb Williams’ better practices. Well over 70% today. Only 4 incompletions all day in 7-on-7/team, and two were tipped at the line.”

The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs highlighted a “Nifty diving catch by Colston Loveland with LB Devin Bush in tight coverage for 20 yds in 11/11. Dart of a throw by CW.”

And yes, the Bears are just practicing in shorts and shells, but it’s 100% better to hear positive reports about the offense than negative ones.

That said, if our favorite team’s offense is showing out, that means our favorite team’s defense is not. However, we won’t know how the team truly shapes up until week one of the regular season, so brace yourself for plenty of ups and downs throughout camp, and don’t get too high or too low over practice reports.

A few other nuggets from the day.

Wideout Rome Odunze has looked sharp over the past two days, and in case you missed it, he discussed his health after so many people overreacted to his “new normal” comments from several weeks ago. ( link )

Running back Kyle Monangai was the only player not on an injury list to miss practice, and no one could determine why—my advice: don’t overreact.

Rookie tight end Sam Roush got some run with the ones. ( link )

Braxton Jones was with the ones at left tackle (I expect this is just what it is now), with Jedrick Wills Jr. getting a few reps there, but mostly he was splitting reps with the twos with Kiran Amegadjie. ( link ) ( link )

Theo Benedet appears to only be backing up at right tackle, and Cairo Santos was perfect on field goals with his long snappers, Luke Elkin and Beau Gardner, splitting reps. ( link )

The nickelback was Jaylon Jones and Cam Lewis, with Josh Blackwell backing up. ( link )
