In only five days and seven hours college by God football will be played in Sanford Stadium. I’m excited about it. You’re excited about. There’s just one small problem: between now and then you have to make some effort to be a productive member of society. Sure you have work, school, and family obligations to tend to. And we want you to be a productive member of society (it’s not like you’re a Tennessee fan, though as Judge Smails wisely remarked, the world does need Dutch diggers, too).
So the plan here is to get you caught up and read in on wjat’s truly needed-to-know in Bulldog Nation this a.m. Let’s get it going:
DawgNation has a look at the Red and Black’s offensive depth chart going into Tennessee State. A few things that jump out, though none of them is particularly news if you’ve been following along this spring and summer. First, the wide receiver room is arguably as unproven as it has been during the Kirby Smart era. Isaiah Canion was certainly productive last year at Georgia Tech, and we know what London Humphreys can do.
But past that it’s just waves of potential and optimism. I’m of the opinion that a couple of those youngsters step up as the season goes on. But the degree to which Georgia is able to cultivate playmakers at the receiver position is going to be a major determinant of whether this team is pretty good or truly great.
Olivia Sayor at Dawgs247 breaks down every game on the 2026 regular season schedule It’s a great catchup if you’ve been caddying for Scottie Scheffler or touring with AC/DC this summer rather than bunkered down preparing for the season with Dawg Sports preview coverage.
Obviously some teams have already begun their seasons, in this the final year in which wacky week zero games will be played before the NCAA puts everyone on a uniform schedule. Our friends at Rocky Top Talk have some initial thoughts on the weekend that was , and I don’t think I disagree with any of them.
I do think that we may be giving Virginia a tad too much credit for beating up on an NC State team that just doesn’t look physically imposing. But looking at the Cavaliers’ schedule I’m not sure anyone other than the SMU Mustangs will be more prepared to slow down the UVA rushing attack. The ACC looks a little soft to me this season outside of Miami and Georgia Tech, both of whom the Cavaliers dodge this season. All of which could mean Virginia could be the 10-2 team that either a) misses the playoffs after taking a beating in its conference championship game, or b) backs into a playoff spot and then gets run over, around, and through in the first round.
We’ll be back with more today, and all week, as the Classic City’s pulse quickens and game day approaches. Until later…
