Ring the bell: PGA Tour Champions pro Scott McCarron announces he's cancer-free

Scott McCarron got to ring the bell on Friday.

McCarron, 61, an 11-time PGA Tour Champions winner, rang the bell at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, to signify that he is cancer free. Diagnosed March 23 with Diffused Large B cell Lymphoma , he had been undergoing daily radiation for the previous 10 days, making 5-hour roundtrips to his home.

"Thank you to all the doctors and nurses that took great care of me," he wrote in a social media post . "Thank you to all my friends, family and everyone that sent prayers my way. I’m forever grateful. Now back to golf!"

— Scott McCarron (@ScottMccarron) July 31, 2026 McCarron was diagnosed with Stage Two B-Cell lymphoma after coming down with a sore throat. Fortunately, he took it seriously because a doctor’s visit led to a trip to an ear, nose and throat doctor, who suggested a biopsy.

“Most of us are pretty stubborn and don't do anything for a while,” he told  Golfweek . “As soon as the thing showed up, I said, ‘I don't like the looks of it.’”

“It was just like a little white thing,” McCarron continued. “But the little white spot was becoming larger, the size of an eraser, and was blocking my esophagus and making it hard to swallow and really sore. So, it was a fast-acting cancer ... early detection is the key for any of the cancers.”

McCarron continued to compete on the Champions Tour while undergoing chemotherapy.

“You get a diagnosis like this and you want to beat it and you want to come back and win again,” McCarron said in April. “So, it's kind of motivating me to get back in the winner's circle. That's my plan and giving me a little bit more incentive to come back and to show people that you can beat these cancers and come back even stronger.”
