Palace latest: Eagles 'grappling with financial constraints

Latest from Sky Sports News' James Savundra: Crystal Palace are grappling with UEFA's squad cost ratio (SCR) rules as they look to strengthen Pierre Sage's squad this summer.The Eagles are yet to pay a transfer fee for a player, although they are closing in on a deal for Real Salt Lake winger Zavier Gozo and are set to sign former Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu on a free transfer after he joined the club's pre-season tour.Their only senior arrival so far has been Oscar Mingueza, who also joined as a free agent, while Daichi Kamada has signed a new one-year contract after his previous deal expired.Palace are one of nine English clubs competing in Europe this season and are therefore subject to UEFA's stricter SCR regulations, which cap spending on wages, transfers and agent fees at 70 per cent of club revenue. By contrast, Premier League clubs not competing in UEFA competitions can spend up to 85 per cent under domestic rules, with additional flexibility through the league's financial framework.The SCR regulations, which have replaced UEFA's previous financial controls, are understood to have made Palace's recruitment plans significantly more challenging as they attempt to build a squad capable of competing both domestically and in Europe.The club have explored a move for Lens centre-back Ismaelo Ganiou, but believe the overall financial package required to complete the deal would exceed what they can currently commit to.Sage gave the 21-year-old his Ligue 1 debut last season, and Ganiou went on to impress as Lens finished second in the French top flight and lifted the Coupe de France.Palace remain keen to strengthen at centre-back following the departures of Maxence Lacroix and Marc Guehi, while another addition in a different position is also under consideration before the transfer window closes.
