On Friday morning, Mark Pope took to Instagram to share an update with Big Blue Nation. The update came the morning of the final day of a week-long shooting drill that the entire team took part in.
In not-so-shocking news, Milan Momcilovic was towards the top of the names when it came to the highest 3-point percentage throughout the week. Still, a name that we have continued to hear throughout the summer made his way just above Momcilovic for the week, and that’s Mason Williams.
The shooting contest consists of each guy taking 100 3s at the start of every practice, off the move, and catch-and-shoot. Going into day four, Pope said that Williams led the team, making 247 of his 300 triples. Following him, Momcilovic had 241 out of 300. Trent Noah was also in the mix, not too far from the top.
So, we’re all curious who will be the top dog after the final day, and now we have the results.
After four days of the drill, we learned that Williams sits atop the 3-point champion throne after this week’s competition, narrowly beating Momcilovic by one made 3-pointer. Momcilovic needed to overcome a six-shot difference to be able to tie or win the battle, but came up one shot shy. Momcilovic made 86 3s in the final round while Williams made 81, and held on to the victory in the end.
These types of videos are what BBN loves to see. The fresh, raw content lets us glimpse what is going on behind the scenes in our Kentucky Wildcats’ practices.
We all know very well that Momcilovic is a shooter, one of the best we’ve seen in quite some time, and he backed that up in this drill, but Williams, slightly beating him, will certainly turn some heads.
The freshman, who was once viewed as a depth piece, seems to be shining day after day and may end up working his way into the rotation big time if he keeps up what he’s had going on in these summer practices.
