Concern, outrage after third cyclist killed in hit-and-run this week By Anthony Carlo Saturday, August 22, 2026 2:11AM Stream New York's #1 news - AccuWeather - original content 24/7 FLATLANDS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Mamadou Diallo came to the United States in search of a better life. That dream and his life ended Thursday night on a rain-soaked Brooklyn street flooded by emergency lights.
"My heard is broke. Its broke. My heart is broke because Mamadou is my best friend," said Abdoulaye Barry.
Barry left West Africa three years ago with his best friend to make the journey to New York City. Diallo found a way to make money with two wheels and a hunger for the American dream, but his late-night Doordash delivery turned deadly because of a driver who had no regard for Diallo's bike or his life.
Diallo's friends say this was the second time he had been hit by a car while out delivering on his bike - but this time it was fatal. Police say the driver hit Diallo so hard that he propelled off the bike - feet into the air and into a parked car.
Police say the driver of a dark-colored BMW sedan just kept going, leaving the scene at East 54th Street and Avenue I, leaving Diallo to die.
"They came and they went over to where he was lying in the street. And then they picked him up and left," said an eyewitness named Valerie.
40-year-old Diallo was the third cyclist killed this week in a hit-and-run. On Tuesday, 51-year-old Angelo Camera, a father of five, was killed in a crash while riding his bike home from work in the Bronx. Police say the driver blew a red light.
Also on Tuesday, 29-year-old Paulina Tec Choc was run over by a pickup truck while stopped on her e-bike at Jamaica Avenue and Cypress Hills Street.
Barry also makes a living on a delivery bike, which right now feels like a gamble with his life after losing his friend.
